The deadline for submission of entries to the 2024 Nikon Small World and Small World in Motion competitions is right around the corner on Tuesday, April 30th. Don’t miss your chance to submit!
This prestigious competition serves as a platform for scientists, photographers, and artists alike to showcase their skills in capturing images and videos through the light microscope. Globally renowned for its celebration of visual excellence and the fusion of imaging technology with artistic creativity, Nikon Small World continues to be a leading forum for showcasing the beauty and complexity of all things tiny yet terrific.
In honor of its 50th anniversary, the grand prize for this year’s competition has been raised to $5,000, commemorating half a century of photos and videos honoring the beauty of the microscopic world. Beyond this monetary award, winners of the previous Small World competitions have also gained international recognition through features in esteemed scientific and general interest publications such as National Geographic, Smithsonian Magazine, Nature, and The Washington Post, among others.

Competitors may submit up to three images or videos digitally at enter.nikonsmallworld.com. Entries will be judged by industry experts evaluating submissions on a variety of criteria including originality, technical proficiency, and visual impact. Entrants may use equipment of any brand to capture their images and videos.
Additional prizes are awarded to the Top 20, Honorable Mentions, and Images of Distinction for Small World Photomicrography, as well as to the Top 5 and Honorable Mentions for Small World in Motion. The winning images and videos will be featured at museums across the country as part of the Nikon Small World Museum Tour.
