The subject matter of this image is the scale of a sole fish (Solea sp.). The image required several techniques to create. The colors are created by differential interference contrast with offsetting of the De Senarmont compensator to produce the desired colors. In addition the significant depth and size of the subject meant it was necessary to stack a number of individual images taken at different depth at each camera image field, and then stitch together the output of these stacks using computer software.
